There is a Youtube video about everything and anything!
Approximately 130 students were lucky enough to meet YA author Don Calame on November 7th. Not only is he an accomplished author, but clearly has a few acting skills as his enthusiastic reading from his novels demonstrated. I think everyone was entertained (and occasionally even a little bit shocked - in a good way. . . not used to hearing some of those words out loud in a school library I bet!). More importantly, we all learned something about what it takes to be a published author. Also loved those Hollywood tales about what is involved in getting a script made into a movie (or more commonly NOT made into a movie apparently).
Don invited students to contact him through his website at www.doncalame.com so if you were there on the 7th, feel free to let him know what you thought.
Thanks again to Jocelyn Knoester, Teen Services Librarian at the Collingwood Public Library, for arranging this visit.
YA author Don Calame is coming to CCI's library on Nov. 7. This acclaimed author and screenwriter will be talking about his trilogy of humourous books, Swim the Fly, Beat the Band and Call the Shots, which trace the misadventures of three high school friends and the girls they try to impress! See Ms. Sherwin in the library for more details and to get a permission form to attend. . . it's bound to be fun and it's free!
Watch the short clip below to get an idea what the first book in the trilogy is all about. . . according to the author.
